24 Things I learnt at 24

*Spoiler* There will be a heck of a lot of sentimental pictures within this post.

Hello you beauts!

My 25th birthday is fast approaching and I can’t help but smile at the prospect of a new year. I intend on my 25th year on this planet to be a good one, but more importantly my 25th year will consist of happiness.

My 24th year has been filled with grief, trials and many  confidence knocks but I have learned so much more than I ever thought possible. So, without and further moaning, here is my 24 things I have learnt in my 24th year.

1. You’re stronger than what you give yourself credit for.

You can and will get through anything. I think we are made to feel like we will fail constantly. Even on the days when we thing we can’t function as a ‘normal’ human being, you still survive to the end of the day.

  1. A bad day isn’t a bad life.

This is something we are all guilty off, one poor day and our entire world is done. It is my belief that bad days are created to allow us to be grateful for all the good we have in our life. And the good ALWAYS over power the bad.

  1. Caffeine is life.

Because no good day started with, ‘Well, I had my herbal tea and bossed the pants of the day’. No, most amazing days start with ‘ I started off with a Starbucks Toffee Nut Latte, its Christmas!’.

  1. A woman with freshly painted nails and a swanky new hair cut will take over the world.

A confident woman will have everything in toe within an hour and if it isn’t, she will have a plan for it. Whether its hair or nails(maybe even both), this small treat will have her/you smiling for days.

  1. Friends are family.

I unfortunately learned this the hard way. As an only child I never really understood having a massive family. I don’t speak to many cousin’s, aunties or uncles- in essence there’s just me, my mum and dad now.

When I lost my grandad and my anxiety got so bad I struggled to get out of the house, my friends really stepped up and helped. They will probably never know how grateful I am.

I have no idea why or how, but the tough time you are going through will ease and sometimes there will be light at the end of the tunnel. I could throw every cliché that has ever existed within this little bit, but something will happen that will make you realise that you had to go through that the get to this euphoric point.

  1. Thank the lord for cheese.

Now this isn’t the metaphorical, cheese. I mean cheddar, brie and all the other amazing cheeses that come along with life. Scientist have found cheese to be as addictive as crack cocaine(I’m seriously not surprised, I love the stuff). Now don’t get me wrong I wouldn’t go selling my Carvellas for a block of wenslydale but I personally don’t thisk theres anything better than a cheese board and a glass of wine with the girls.

Or cheesy chips when you hammered.

  1. Never look to the past to find yourself.

I have been guilty of this in the past, looking back at the previous versions of yourself and thinking why aren’t I still like that. Why did I lose this person? Well the truth is you lost yourself in life.

Everyone is guilty of this, don’t be ashamed of it. As a race human beings have evolved, and that is exactly what you do. Growing up, changing opinions and everything else has helped you in your evolution; evolution to become just how you are meant to be, you.

  1. Blankets.

Fluffy. Knitted. Who cares just let me snuggle.

  1. Giving back.

Charities, friends and families, giving back feels amazing. It really does. This Christmas I am determined to give back, I am still not quite sure how or why but I am. Watch this space.

  1. Taking time away to look after your MH is perfectly okay.

. Its so easy to lose who you are or even who you want to be. Taking time away from any situation is sometimes a necessary process to save the little bit of sanity you have. There is only one you.IMG_3527

  1. Motivational quotes are sometimes all you need.

(Only sometimes)

As Dumbledore once said. ‘Happiness can be found in the darkest of places, if one remembers to turn on the light’.

  1. The smallest things can add or damage your confidence.

I am not going to go too much into this, we all know words can sting like a paper cut dipped in vinegar. Yet, personally I think we need to start throwing compliments around like confetti.

Yes, I did just say that, I’m basic.

  1. Our online persona’s don’t define who we are.

You guys know I try to be as honest as I can on here. This is my space to say what I feel and what I love. Yet, there are things I don’t want to put out there. We all know that once words are written on SM/blogs or even group chats, they are there forever and somethings I don’t want following me around for the rest of my natural.

  1. It perfectly acceptable to ‘wing’ life.

Spoiler: no one actually knows what they’re doing. Don’t believe them when they say they do, their lying to make themselves feel better. Sorry not sorry.

I am possibly the worst person alive to fall asleep with a full face of make up on. My skin hated me for years. Spots, dry skin you name it I had it.

Right now, I have it down to a fine art! And my skin is very grateful.

*Capitals are to remind myself not to be an idiot.

  1. Christmas Tele Ad’s are the best.

How can you not love them? There full of wonder and joy!

  1. Sometimes you just need a cuddle.

Bad day? Naff mood? Or just desperately need to feel a little less lonely. A cuddle is all you need to feel better.

  1. Invest in shoes AND bedding.

You walk on your feet every day, if it is possible, please spend money on your footwear. Nothing is worse than walking for miles in a pair of uncomfortable shoes. It’s the same principle when it comes to bedding, you sleep in bed every night- treat yourself to some snuggly bed sheets.

You will thank yourself later.

  1. Stand up for what you believe in.

Standing up for something you are whole heartily passionate about is something to be admired. Many don’t have the confidence too but if you can then you go for it. Please remember that, its perfectly fine to stand up for what you believe in, but please don’t put others down in the process.

Example: Cheese, gravy and chips? Preach it.

  1. You are enough.

For years I honestly felt like shit about myself, I didn’t know who I wanted to be. I made a lot of mistakes and in truth I would love to go back and rectify them- but I can’t. This year was the year I learnt about self worth.

And Huns trust me when I say, we are all enough.

22. Focus on the positives and the negatives will soon sod off.

Life is full of amazing things, but it is also sometimes a bit shit. Focus on you, focus on your children or just focus on something positive. The negatives will soon fade away.

23.A Snapchat Filter hides a multitude of sins.

The puppy looks still in right?

24. It’s bloody hard to find 24 things I have learnt this year!

Well, enough said really.

*Yes, I know I’m technically 24, but 25 days of Em is coming up and I REALLY wanted to do this post.*

I am really sorry if this post has been a little boxy, but I thought it was really important to write a post like this. Every day we learn new lessons. I am so excited to learn more.

Here’s to 25.
